The annual question

Each year you should ask yourself these two questions about your job:

Why am I still here?

Would I apply for a job here?

The answers will reveal if you are making fear based decisions. Be honest and don’t bullshit yourself. Make a conscious decision to stay or leave. Maybe you love your gig and it sparks joy. But own it if you are too scared or unable to leave for whatever reason. Make a choice, acknowledge the choice and then get on with it.

Clearing the air

If you want to avoid bad blood in a relationship then always clear the air the next time you see the person. It take guts to put things on the table, but there’s no better antidote after tempers have flared, or a heated debate.

Tremors

I believe that animals can sense impending earthquakes and tsunamis. Maybe it’s because they are attuned to different frequencies or changes in air pressure, temperature or sounds.

When I’m swimming in the ocean I can feel when a storm is coming. The currents are different and the swell changes. The water moving around my body is more powerful and sweeping. The fish go deep, and still beneath rocks and kelp.

If you listen carefully, you will see and feel change coming.

Past and Present

Some of the happiest people I know have made peace with their past and live in the present. It’s not about the things they own, where they live or how much money they have in the bank account.

Be at peace and be happy 🙂

It’s a kinda magic

Even though I believe in magic, I’m still surprised when it finds me or I find it.

And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.

Inter-Planetary Customs and Immigration

Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin submitted this U.S. Customs form after the Apollo 11 Moon mission:

In next few decades when or if we become a multi-planet species, I wonder what immigration forms will look like when people arrive from Mars, and Alpha Centauri.

Due to unforeseen circumstances

“This event is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances” is the perfect line for 2020.

I hope we get more comfortable with that phrase.

2020 taught me:

1. People know jack shit about what’s going to happen next.

2. It’s okay to change for experts to change their mind as more data is available

3. Back yourself and your intuition.
